Rachel and James – Askham Hall -Lake District Wedding

I first met Rachel and James for their wintery engagement shoot at Williamson Park, Lancaster (here). I loved hearing about their plans for the big day and so when April rolled around I was beyond excited to shoot their wedding at Askham Hall!

There is nothing I love more than couple’s making choices about their wedding which are individual and important to them.  Rachel and James chose to marry on a Monday afternoon with just 16 of their closest friends and family. It was such a lovely and intimate day that completely shined with their personality.

Rachel and James married at the gorgeous Askham Hall near Penrith, Cumbria. The Hall is a beautiful Grade I listed country house that has been converted into a luxury wedding venue. With it’s beautiful bridal rooms, period features and amazing gardens, Askham Hall oozes charm, yet still manages to feel homely and relaxed.

If you are planning a wedding at Askham Hall (or anywhere else for that matter) and are looking for a photographer to capture your wedding in a natural, unobtrusive way, then please do get in touch.

Ruth and Chris – Red Lion Hotel Wedding

When I met Ruth and Chris for their pre-wedding shoot last year and they told me all about their plans for a colourful, lego-themed wedding, I couldn’t wait to see them again to shoot their big day! Their wedding at the Red Lion Hotel in Burnsall did not disappoint! It was the perfect mixture of relaxed, fun and romantic , all tied together with lovely handmade pieces by a very talented and crafty bride.

5 Great Reasons To Have a Pre-wedding Photoshoot

A pre wedding shoot, often referred to as an engagement shoot, is a short photoshoot with your wedding photographer that takes place in the weeks or months leading up to your wedding. The main aim of a pre-wedding shoot is to get you feeling relaxed  in front of the camera before your big day.

Here in more detail, are 5 great reasons to have a pre-wedding shoot…

1. Get to know your photographer

A pre-wedding shoot is a perfect opportunity to get to know your wedding photographer before the big day. You will have a better idea of how your photographer works which will help you to feel more relaxed for the main event.

The one hour shoot will ensure you feel comfortable in-front of the camera and will give you an idea of how it will be on the day.

Just as importantly, your photographer will get to know you both better as a couple. Knowing your personalities, what you enjoy and what is important to you will really help your photographer make your wedding photos more ‘you’.

2. Try out your hair and make-up

A pre-wedding shoot is a great way to “try out” your make-up artist and hair dresser before the big day. You’ll get to see how the hair and make-up looks on camera and know ahead of time if you want any adjustments made before the wedding!

3. Invites or Guestbook Photos

The photos from your pre-wedding shoot can be a perfect way to give your wedding stationary a nice personal touch. You can use the photos on your wedding invitations, ‘save the date’ cards or as a front cover for your guestbook.

4. Special Location or Interests

A pre-wedding shoot can be a great opportunity to have photos together in a location that is special to you both.

Perhaps you got engaged at the beach and would like some lovely natural photos there or maybe you would like a shoot in the very spot you first met. Your photographer will be very interested to hear any location ideas you might have and create a plan with you.

The shoot can also be a nice way of encapsulating your hobbies and interests at the time. Whether that’s camping, music, reading, partying or walking the dog (yes, pets a very welcome!) a pre-wedding shoot is a great chance to get creative.

5. It’s fun!

If nothing else, a pre-wedding shoot is a lovely way to spend a bit of time with your other half, cuddling, laughing, being goof balls and getting some nice photos for the wall!

I know a lot of couples would rather be anywhere else than in front of the lens for a photoshoot. However, all couples tell me at the end of their pre-wedding photoshoot that they’ve had fun and enjoyed themselves. Boom!

Hopefully I’ve managed to persuade you that an engagement shoot is actually a great idea! If you would like to book a fun, laid-back couple shoot or add a pre-wedding shoot to your existing wedding package do get in touch here.

Kelly and Gary – Bolton School Wedding

Kelly and Gary got married last March in a gorgeous ceremony at Bolton School in (you guessed it) Bolton! Bolton School is one of the oldest schools in Lancashire and with parts of the building dating back over 600 years there are some absolutely beautiful spots for wedding photos. It was my first wedding of 2018 and what a way to start the season!

On the morning of the wedding, Kelly and her bridesmaids got ready at the the Last Drop Hotel in Bolton. Kelly made sure to get ready in plenty of time as she wanted to stop off on the way the ceremony to surprise her Grandma (who wouldn’t be able to make it to Bolton School due to health reasons) in her wedding dress and bring her one of the bouquets from the wedding.

Clicking away behind flood of tears at Farnworth Care Home I witnessed just the loveliest moment. Kelly’s Grandma was in utter shock and delight to see Kelly just half an hour before she was due to walk down the isle. I’m so glad I was able to capture this memory for them even if I did use up all the tissues!

The rest of the day was just as lovely as Kelly and Gary celebrated the day with family and friends. The constant smiles, laughter and dancing made it such a pleasure to be a part of and I can’t wait to be back at the venue this year!

2018 Wedding Photography Highlights

I cant quite believe we are here again, the beginning of a brand new year, hello 2019!

Okay, so I’m a few days late with my 2018 wedding photography highlights because we started the year with no internet connection in our house! So as well as being late to the game with my 2018 roundup, I’ve not been able to watch the new episode of Luther or find out what all the hype is over Birdbox and Bandersnatch on Netflix! It’s been torture!

2018 completely whizzed by. They do say ‘time flies when you’re having fun’ and that is very true of this year!

2018 has been my busiest year to date in terms of wedding photography and it has been such a great pleasure to look back over the last 12 months and put together this blog post. It is a selection of images from weddings throughout 2018, including lots of my favourite moments, although by no means all! There’s a real mix of all the things I love about shooting weddings; behind the scenes moments, real laughter, dancing, and the connections between family and friends.

I’m so excited for what 2019 has in store for me and my little business. If you are currently on the hunt for a wedding photographer in Manchester, the North West (or anywhere for that matter!) please do drop me a message here. I do still have dates available for 2019 and 2020 is booking up fast!

I would like to say a huge thank you to Roberta and Bronte for shooting with me this year and to all the amazing venues, vendors, planners, designers, florists and videographers who make my job so fun to do.

As ever, the biggest THANK YOU goes to all the amazing couples who have given me the opportunity to capture their memories for them, it has been an absolute pleasure! Lots of love and all the best for the future and here’s to a very happy 2019!

If you like what you see in this blog post and would like to enquire about my availability for your wedding date please drop me a message here!

Kimberley and Alex – Anniversary Shoot Cuerden Valley Park

I had the pleasure of shooting Kimberley and Alex’s wedding back in 2015 at Wellington Park  in Chorley . It was one of the rainiest weddings I have ever photographed but that didn’t stop the smiles or us getting this awesome shot as Kimberley and Alex left St Andrews Church.

(You can see some more from their wedding day here)

Fast-forward to 2018 and Kim and Alex were the first couple to come to mind when I decided I wanted to start offering anniversary photo shoots alongside my engagement and wedding photography. We hadn’t had much luck on the wedding day of getting outdoor couple shots due to the rain so this seemed like a perfect opportunity!  A couple of weeks ago we headed over to Cuerden Valley Park in Leyland for the anniversary shoot and amazingly…it wasn’t raining! It was so lovely to catch-up with Kim and Alex after three years and hear all about what they had been up to since their wedding day. I learned why Cureden Valley Park means so much to them and we managed to get some lovely shots within the hour that I was was them, here are a few…

2nd May 2018

Happy Anniversary you two! Wishing you many more years of love and happiness xx

Rachael and Anna – The Fisherman’s Retreat Wedding

It’s finally December! Which means I can finally share with you Rachael and Anna’s beautiful winter wedding at The Fisherman’s Retreat in Ramsbottom.

Racheal and Anna married last Christmas and I was lucky enough to spend the day with them from the afternoon ceremony through to the speeches in the evening. I wanted to wait and post their photos this year so that we could all get in the festive mood and gain a little Christmas inspiration too.

The Fisherman’s Retreat was the perfect venue for a winter wedding. The huge widows meant there was lots of lovely natural light and the rows of pine trees and woodland outside made it feel very ‘Christmassy’. The candy cane centre pieces, the Christmas cupcake tree, the hot chocolate wedding favours, the candles in the fireplace and the Baileys and mulled wine for the guests…everything was perfect. And with two brides everything was twice as pretty. Two beautiful ladies, two gorgeous dresses, two perfect winter bouquets, I couldn’t have been happier to shoot their day!

If you’re planning your own Winter wedding (or any season wedding of that matter!) and are looking for a Northwest wedding photographer please do get in touch. If you are getting married in the Lancashire area or at The Fisherman’s Retreat I would love to hear from you!

Chelsea and Ben – Sneak Peeks

Chelsea and Ben celebrated their beautiful wedding at The Last Drop Village & Hotel in Bolton. I was lucky enough to be there for the full day from the very calm bridal prep in the morning to the booty shaking on the dance floor in the evening. It was an amazing day and Chelsea and Ben looked so happy surrounded by their lovely family and friends as they became Mr and Mrs Brown.

While the newlyweds are off enjoying their honeymoon in the Maldives (i’m not jealous at all!) I thought I would post a few sneak peeks of their big day…

Stephanie and James – Sneak Peaks

Stephanie and James had a super elegant James Bond inspired wedding at The Mecure Haydock Hotel in Saint Helens. It was definitely one of the most glamorous weddings I’ve had the pleasure of shooting from the black ties and diamante details to the movie star make-up and Stephanie’s TWO gorgeous wedding dresses! Charnock Farm Wedding Photography – Jessie and Ethan

Jessie and Ethan had a gorgeous summer wedding at  Charnock Farm in Leyland. When I found out Jessie was a fellow photographer I was a mixture of honored, excited and nervous to shoot her big day!

I joined the girls on the wedding morning for some very fun, relaxed bridal preparations. You know it’s going to be a good day when McDonalds breakfast gets delivered for the whole wedding party! The boys were busy getting ready elsewhere and by the time I met up with them at the venue everyone was raring to go.

Nerves were high before the wedding but Jessie had nothing to worry about… She looked absolutely stunning in her beaded fishtail gown, the ceremony room at Charnock Farm was dressed so beautifully and her family, friends and fiancee couldn’t wait to see her. The ceremony was lovely too. You could see Jessie’s nerves slipping away with each second she was with Ethan and by the time they left to enjoy the sunshine as Mr and Mrs Hunt there were huge smiles all round.

Jessie and Ethan had thought of so many details to make their day special, not only for themselves, but also for everyone sharing their day with them. The whole wedding was such a pleasure to shoot, here are some of my favorite shots from the day….
